Blackberry Bold fans wear their heart on their… ears?

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Although we were excited about its launch, we’re not exclusively about the iphone 3G here at Popgadget. We are just (okay, almost) as excited about the sexy new blackberry Bold, with its large screen, WiFi, GPS and, um, John Mayer endorsement.

So when I saw these fabulous hand-made Blackberry earrings on Etsy, I thought they would be the perfect way to declare brand loyalty until the Bold is available next month. But they’re sold out.
However, there’s nothing to stop you from buying up some Fimo and making something similar yourself (using the phone or your choice as your inspiration).

Nothing but the limits of your craft skills, that is…

Pioneer BDP-09FD

Monday, August 25th, 2008

If you want the best, and I mean the very best, regardless of Price, the Pioneer Elite BDP-09FD would be the blu-ray player. Up until now, the best blu-ray player available has surprisingly been the Sony playstation 3. The Pioneer BDP-09FD really takes blu-ray players to the next level, and makes all current models look rather lacking and sub standard. Pioneer have given their Elite Pioneer BDP-09FD full Blu-ray Profile 2.0 straight out of the box, with no need to wait for new firmware to be released. Fully supporting the new BD-Live playback.

As you can see from the photo, the Pioneer BDP-09FD is be big hefty machine, at about 45 lbs, with all it’s highest end components mounted directly, with no internal wiring to a 1/4 inch plate of sold steel base and extremely vibration-free feet. Pioneer is aiming the BDP-09FD at the high-end home theater enthusiast, with the aim of the single unit to replace the need of their existing DVD player and CD player, and the BDP-09FD will do a much better job.

Feature wise, the Pioneer Elite BDP-09FD provides 4GB of internal storage, eight independent D/A converters for every 7.1 channel, and 16-bit color output. 1080p / 24p output for blu-ray and DVDs can be output over two HDMI outputs, eliminating the need for a splitter of constant unplugging of the HDMI cable to the HDTV or projector. You can also use one HDMI output for the video signal and the other HDMI for the audio.

So if you want the best of the best, and can afford to payout $2200 for a blu-ray player, the should be your number one. Pioneer

Illuminated Skeleton Graveyard

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Add a touch of ghastliness to your yard this coming Halloween with the Illuminated Skeleton Graveyard.

This is the graveyard composed of 26 plastic illuminated upper arm bones and skeletal hands that form a three-sided fence that surrounds three foam tombstones textured and painted to look like granite. The fence can enclose a 4′ x 4′ area in your yard. Two rubber rats with feral red eyes that glow with a hint of diabolical sentience lurk beside the upper torso of a skeleton that appears to be pulling itself out of the ground–the chest cavity still houses a beating heart that pulses from bright red to deep crimson as it lights, then dims. A single skull with two blinking eye sockets accompanies the other remains. The bones, heart, and skull each house mini-lights rated for 1,000 hours of use; rats use C7 candelabra type bulbs. Plugs into AC. Fence bones have stakes for securing them into the ground.

Might scare very little children away, but for the rest of the general populace, this $99.95 device probably would elicit more curious looks than hair raising episodes.

Cross country trip is a bit bumpy for hydrogen based cars

Monday, August 25th, 2008

American’s are begging for alternative energy sources as of late, especially in their cars if it’ll save them money over time (see the several months you have to wait for a new Prius).  Hydrogen to many seems to be the next sustainable energy source.  Only one problem: there are only 60 stations for hydrogen across the country, only two of which do not require an appointment.  Thanks to this, the country’s first hydrogen cross country trip required flatbed trucks to carry the car when it ran out of fuel. Part of the point of the trip was apparently to show that in order for hydrogen to become viable more stations are needed, and I guess they accomplished that. Traveling 1,000 miles or more on a flatbed truck severely increases the carbon footprint of hydrogen cars.

It seems the best we can hope for is to have 2 million hydrogen vehicles on the road by 2020.  I don’t know about you, but that seems to take quite a while.  With numbers like that, the wait for an eventual partially solar powered Prius might just be worth it.
