Amazing Waterproof Coating for electronics

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The picture tells a thousand words, and the video after the jump tells a thousand more. Golden Shellback is the name of the coating that is applied to these electronics that makes them impermeable to water. From their website:

“When applied to clean, moisture free surfaces, such as plastic, copper, aluminum, metal, ceramic, steel, tin or glass, the coating is transparent with excellent weather proofing and anti-corrosion properties. Golden Shellback coating has an excellent ability to repel oils, synthetic fluids, hazardous materials, dust, dirt and water based solutions. Low surface tension values, such as water and oils will bead and drain freely from coated surfaces. The process produces a uniform, continuous, near hermetic coating that resists rain and humidity. Electronics casually exposed to water continue to work even after exposure. The coating is readily applied and not generally considered to be removable. Repairs are made using abrasive methods. “

Strangely enough, Golden Shellback was created by the Northeast Maritime Institute, which is exactly what it sounds like! Skip forward to about 1 minute in to get to the good stuff.

JVC offers HP-FXC50 earphones

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Victor Company of Japan is first off the blocks to release the industry’s maiden sound-isolating earphone whose driver unit is located in its sound channel (the part that enters an earhole). The earphone will be known as the HP-FXC50, and it will hit Japan early next month. The driver unit of the HP-FXC50 is much longer and thinner, measuring 5.8mm in diameter, compared to the current model, allowing it to be installed in the sound channel. In addition, the distance between the driver unit and a drum membrane has been shortened to reduce both external sound and sound leakage. Thanks to the longer sound channel, the comfort level of the HP-FXC50 has clearly improved according to Victor. You will find features such as a frequency range from 10 to 24000Hz, a response (output sound pressure level) of 103dB/1mW and a maximum permissible input of 150mW. There is no word on pricing, but it should retail somewhere in the neighborhood of $38.

Dell’s offering a free Xbox 360 with XPS M1730 notebook

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Dell is currently offering a free Xbox 360 Elite bundle with certain customizations of their XPS M1730 laptop.  Nice, huh? Yeah, well the only customization that offers this lucrative deal is the highest, $3000, package.

When you buy the laptop, you get a nice string of Xbox related accessories.  Those included are a pair of faceplates and two games. That checks in at around a $400 value, which is a great offer for those already considering a new laptop purchase and without an Xbox or even those wishing to make a quick buck (or four hundred) on eBay.

For those of you fortunate enough to be able to drop three grand on a laptop, you get a nice bonus as well, this offer is available through July 24, 2008.

iPhone 3G goes beyond $1,000 mark on eBay

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Just how hot do you think that the iPhone 3G has gotten? It seems that pent up demand for this smartphone has reflected in insane prices on eBay, with some of the bids already surpassing the magical $1,000 mark. Heck, even in the real world, demand for the iPhone 3G still results in lines forming outside of more notable Apple stores including the one in New York. So far, over 1 million units worldwide has already been sold, and demand remains extremely strong with both AT&T in the U.S. and O2 in the U.K. reporting iPhone 3G shortages. Currently, bids on eBay or the 16GB iphone has passed the $1,0000 mark with even one bid ending at a ridiculous $2,325, while the smaller capacity 8GB iPhone 3G averages around $800 to $900. There’s a trick to all this - delayed gratification is the keyword, folks.
