The iPhone 3G is Coming: Pre-Order Now Available

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Are you counting the clock ’til you can get it? What’s “it” you ask? Why, what else but the Apple iPhone 3G that’s coming out in the UK through O2.

Pre-orders have been available since yesterday and consumers have reportedly been flocking to the available online portals where they could sign up such that O2’s servers went down. The Apple iPhone 3G were available for pre-order directly from O2 and from Carphone Warehouse. I say “were” because not surprisingly, the demand was so large the units allocated for online orders ran out. Both online portals are displaying banners saying “Due to huge demand for the iphone 3G, we’re currently out of stock online.” However, said web sites promise more information come June 10. So if you’re interested in the second-gen iPhone, I suggest you get ready to stand in line as soon as July 11 rolls in.

Canon’s $699 EOS Rebel XS to begin shipping in August

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Canon USA has officially announced its next generation entry level digital SLR camera, the EOS Rebel XS which officially replaces the EOS Rebel XT. Like we told you not so long ago, the Rebel XS offers up a cheaper alternative to the previously announced Rebel XSi.

Aside from features that we mentioned before such as a 10.1-megapixel image sensor, 2.5-inch LCD, 7-point autofocus system, 81% viewfinder coverage, 12-bit image processing, spot metering and remote control functionality, the Rebel XS also boasts of a 3.0 frames per second continuous JPEG burst rate which will only be limited by the capacity of the flash memory card in the camera. Weighing only 450 grams, the Rebel XS is by far the lightest EOS digital camera that will come out in the market.

And now for the most important information, Canon has announced that the EOS Rebel XS will have a retail price of $699.99. The Rebel XS camera body would come with the standard EF-S18-55m kit lens and is expected to hit the US market sometime in August.

Tokyoflash Galaxy: The Newest in the Line to Give You Headache 24/7

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

All of the Tokyoflash watches have the capability to confund me greatly, some more than others. I have found a few which are quite understandable and which I’d consider wearing. One such watch is the new Tokyoflash Galaxy.

In fact, telling the time using the Galaxy is so ridiculously easy, I’ve doubted its Tokyoflash-factor at first. If you take a look at the pic above, you’d see that there are three layers of coloured lighs on the face of the watch. The outer yellow layer is divided into twelve bars which represent, yeah you got it, the hours. The 11 inner red lights represent minutes in chunks of five. The green bands on the upper part of the red ones represent single minutes. You can choose to view the time by flashing the lights when you need through pressing the upper button, although you can display what time it is round the clock by clicking the lower button.

Tokyoflash Galaxy is now available for 66.

TomTom HD Traffic passes through FCC, expect in States soon

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

TomTom came out with a GPS that boasts HD traffic capabilities, and it had been a hit in Europe. It recently passed through the FCC, and should be available in the US soon…hopefully. Details are scarce on this GPS, as there is no word on who will be the carrier for this, and how much the services will cost.

Basically, HD traffic uses cell phone data to display real time traffic updates. You might be thinking, there are already GPS’ which can give live traffic updates, what makes HD traffic so special? Well, HD traffic gives up to 5 times more traffic data and it covers up to 10 times more roads than GPS’ with basic live traffic updates. Additionally, it still maintains the same specs as the European version, which include a 4.3-inch LCD screen, 1GB of storage and SIM card.  Unfortunately, no word on pricing or availability at this time.

Halo 6-in-1 Projection Alarm Clock

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I know when most people say “Halo”, what springs to mind is that fragging-cool game for the Xbox. In this case, I am referring to the Halo 6-in-1 Projection Alarm Clock Flashlight that even Master Chief himself would be comfortable with.

The six functions of the Halo are the projection alarm clock, flashlight, clock, timer, calendar, as well as a built-in compass. The projection alarm clock, which means you can shine your wake-up time right on the wall. Apparently, you can also shine a regular white light, as the device has a flashlight function.

I believe that the many multifunctional uses of the Halo makes it an ideal companion device for campers. True, campers may not need or even want an alarm, but they would certainly be in need of a Compass. They might also enjoy the Timer for cooking food on the fire. Of course, if a camper was really roughing it, they might forget about using the Calendar and Clock.

The Halo 6-in-1 Projection Alarm Clock is designed to fit in your hand, and runs on three 1.5 volt batteries. It is available at the Vavolo site, for an unbelievable price of $3.99. You can also get a good deal if you buy it in conjunction with one of their other devices.

Dress For Dinner Napkins: Go ahead, wear an undershirt

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I’m the type of guy who wears a suit and tie for a phone interview. I, for one, love getting dressed up. There’s something about a nice shirt and tie that just boosts my confidence up a notch. I just feel better in a suit. But there is surely (stop calling me Shirly) a huge chunk of you who despise the thought of donning a suit and designer slacks.

Maybe you just prefer more typically comfortable attire. A plain white undershirt and boxers are something you wouldn’t mind wearing to a dinner party. Lucky for you, you might just be able to get away with it now. These Dress for Dinner Napkins take the embarrassment of not being able to properly knot a tie and take the easy way out. A tie emblazoned napkin.

So here’s the deal. You get to show off the fact that you’re not a total bum by wearing a napkin in your shirt like a true gentleman, but you also don’t have to get all formalized for your formal dinner. The napkins have a fake tie drawn right onto the product, creating the illusion of a gentleman.

Fancy restaurants don’t have to be a match for your lack of fashion. Each package of 20 napkins cost you $5.95. So unless you’re eating ribs or BBQ, you’ll be all set for your next 20 semi-formal luncheons. No guarantee on whether or not these napkins will actually pass you off as someone who cares.

Drobo 2 revealed, Firewire added

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

You remember Drobo, right? The “robot” that stores your data, from Data Robotics.  Well, its been over a year since its launch, and the makers of Drobo have decided to give their product a little update.  Today, the “Drobo 2” has been announced, featuring not one, but two Firewire 800 ports. The device also added a more powerful processor to support the Firewire ports and a quieter case fan. Data Robotics claims that the Firewire ports allow for two times the data transfer speeds, blowing other competitors out of the water. However, the Drobo still lacks any sort of Ethernet/Wi-Fi connectivity.

You can still get the Drobo for the same $500 price tag, and $900 gives you two 1TB drives; $1,300 gives you four 1TB drives.  If you don’t care for Firewire, the original Drobo is selling (until stock runs out) for $350 or $750, and $1,075 — empty or bundled with either two 1TB or four 1TB drives, respectively.

Apple to Rogers: “Oh, Hell Naw!”

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Canadians have something to be truly pissed about. Finally, the iPhone 3G is about to set foot in North America, and Canadian wireless provider Rogers has to lay down some of the worse price plans you could possibly expect, even compared to Canadian wireless standards.

To start, there is absolutely no unlimited plan to speak of. The highest data allowance tops off at 2GB and only 300 sent text messages, which for most people is way more data than they’ll ever use in the first place, but even so, for $115 a month, you shouldn’t be setting any limits on anyone. Apple has had it with Rogers and they’re making it very clear. Sources say that they have officially pulled the iphone off the Rogers sale racks, even before its launch on the 11th.

While Rogers might not be listening to the customer backlash, made evident through petitions such as RuinediPhone.com, Apple and Mr. Steve Jobs certainly are keeping their ears peeled. In an official statement Apple said “We have nothing to do with the service plans. Those are Rogers’ plans.”

And just to prove their adamant attitude about their hatred for these plans, Apple has pulled the plug on Rogers and Fido. While it leaves Rogers in quite a bad spot, they kind of had it coming. They can’t expect Apple to sit through the customer backlash, just because they are launching a data dictatorship.
