USB Aircraft Mouse

Monday, July 7th, 2008

So you’ve always wanted to get your pilot license, but your severe fear of flying has held you back. Not to mention you’re more interested in flight simulation games than actual aircraft flying. But all of that dreaming has done nothing to thwart your love of aircraft themed gadgets. And this one is an awesome example.

This USB Aircraft Mouse is an awesome addition to a plane lovers desk. The aircraft design also makes the mouse an ergonomic joy, though a little too chunky for some people. It’s probably not the kind of mouse you want to pack in a laptop case.

Weighing 90 grams, the Aircraft Mouse is considerably lighter than it looks. The mouse itsel offers 800 dpi resolution, plug and play support, and an LED indicator which glows when the mouse is connected into your USB port. While it offers support for Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP/Vista, there’s no word on whether or not this mouse works for Mac.

The USB Aircraft Mouse can be yours for $17.00. Not a bad price for a really cool designed mouse. You’ll be hard pressed to find a mouse this cheap and looks this cool, even from retailers such as Wal-Mart. The USB Aircraft Mouse comes in your choice of red, orange, green, white, or black.

Power Pad hacked into musical controller, DDR trembles

Monday, July 7th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 7th 2008 at 3:12PM
We’re not quite sure how Seth Sternberger, one member of 8 Bit Weapon, was able to pull this off, but he somehow compiled a number of old parts from local shops and eBay in order to transform an NES Power Pad into an instrument of awesomeness. Click on through for a video of Micro Boogie being performed on said Pad, and don’t be shocked to find yourself immediately overcome with the need to get one of these in your own house (only to remember that you can’t dance).

Violight’s izap UV toothbrush sanitizer

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Apparently I’m on a disinfecting kick today, because this is the 2nd one of the day.  This time though it’s actually sold in the US and it’s a case that not only carries your toothbrush, but disinfects it as well.  Which is great for when it is at home, just purely because of the bacteria in the air in the bathroom.  It would also be nice for travelers since research has shown that those that stay in hotel rooms go home with germs and tend to get a cold or the flu.

The company that makes the izap (Violight) actually makes several different similar sanitizing products.  All of which use UV technology to eliminate 99.9% of the germs.  This is the cheapest and most portable, but if you’re looking for something that does several at once, you can check out the site for more.  The izap itself comes with a free toothbrush and automatically will start working when you close the lid.  It comes in clear, blue and orange and is being sold for $19.95.  You can buy it online or at Walgreens.

Seascout Automatic Rescue Boat for Overworked Lifeguards

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Summertime usually means a trip to the beach for most people and that usually translates to about seven thousands drowning in the waters off shore every year. Whether the life guards couldn’t reach them in time or because they simply got carried away in a wicked undertow, many could’ve easily been rescued if something like the SEASCOUT Aquatic Rescue Robot was patrolling nearby.

The idea is simple. Each swimmer wears a GPS unit which can be activated should the swimmer become in distress. The rest if up to the Seascout, which will pick up the GPS beacon and make a beeline straight for the drowing victim and scoop them up to safety.

Designed by Andre Harley, a student at the Designskolen Kolding University in Denmark, the Seascout can also be directed manually or programmed to patrol in a random fashion until needed. It contains a internal lighting, a sunroof, a radio system to call for further aid, and is painted in a bright yellow to spot easily (although international orange will probably be it’s ultimate color configuration). Harley created a concept Seascout using a radio controlled boat cut in half and a Lego MindStorms Robotic Kit.

And it’s uses go beyond beachside rescues, as SeaScouts can be deployed from ships, oil rigs, oceanliners, or anywhere else near a body of water.

Peel & stick solar power panels

Monday, July 7th, 2008

These amazing peel & stick solar power panels from Lumeta are literally what it sounds like. Simply peel off the backing, and lay them down on a rooftop. Hook up the cabling and power connectors and you’re good to go. Hit the jump for an video of 2 workers laying down 6 of these 8′x4′ panels and hooking them up in less than 35 minutes.

The lumeta Power-Ply 380 photovoltaic panels don’t require any special infrastructure or mounting units, but simply lay flat on rooftops, making for very fast installation.

This is another in what will be an increasing number of products that are becoming cheaper to produce and purchase that will aid in moving the world away from fossil fuels and towards a cleaner environment.

Vegetable vending machines

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Are we heading towards a time when we’ll be able to fulfill all of our material needs without ever making human contact? These vending machines in Japan that dispense fresh vegetables make me think maybe yes.

The vending machine craze hasn’t quite taken off in the U.S., though people who are nostalgic about New York’s Automats from the olden days can visit BAMN in the East Village, where you can get hot comfort foods from automat machines.

Virgin Mobile unleashes the Kyocera non-explosive TNT!

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Don’t mind the seemingly explosive brand name. This basic mobile handset from Kyocera is a simple handset that won’t give you any touchscreen features or high megapixel resolution cameras. It’s just your basic mobile handset minus the frills of other high-end phones. But in this trying times, the Kyocera TNT!, which is available now over at Virgin Mobile for a mere $19.99 might just be what everyone needs.

So, what do you get from a dirt cheap phone such as the TNT! from Kyocera. Surprisingly, for the not so sophisticated mobile phone users, the TNT! some decent features worthy of its price tag. It has a full color screen, mobile web browsing, text messaging, two-way speakerphone, and a TTY/TDD enabled for the hearing impaired. It gives out 200 minutes of talktime and 120 hours of standby time, and it also allows you to download some cool stuff from Virgin Mobile network, such as real music (MP3) ringtones, chat park, graphics, games and more.
