Sprint’s Treo 800w gets pictured again

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Similar to the blackberry Kickstart, the upcoming Palm Treo 800w is becoming a popular handset for early live images.

The latest to show up carries on the tradition of being blurry and well that is really all we can say about it. Based on the image, it looks like it is an early tester unit, which is based on the serial number towards the top right corner that has been blurred out. We also suspect that this will not be the color of the final release.

Real? Maybe, maybe not. I guess we will know for sure if the Treo 800w is released on July 13 as expected.

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 25th 2008 at 10:44AM
If you pulled the trigger early on an XPS M1730, you may have gotten “stuck” with “just” a GeForce 8700M GT or similar. If you just can’t be behind the times, Dell is finally offering a solution with the GeForce 8800M GTX upgrade kit. Said package includes dual SLI 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express graphics card designed specifically to boost frame rates and install all sorts of Vista-compatible bragging rights. If you’re comfortable with doing the swap yourself, the upgrade price sits at a penny under $1,100. For those seeking professional help, you’ll be coughing up $1,218.99. For those of you not frozen in place by sticker shock, you can peek the how-to guide for installation after the break.

AT&T BlackBerry Bold having problems, delayed possibly until August

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

The highly anticipated BlackBerry Bold may be on track in Canada, however it seem to be having issues and will be delayed for while here in the US. The new date of it’s release is sometime in August, and although according to BGR this has been confirmed by “two high-level sources,” it is has not been officially confirmed from AT&T at this time.

AT&T and the manufacturer of blackberry, RIM, are reported to be having problems with the software, battery life and overheating problems. It looks like AT&T and RIM have disappointed a lot of people recently, and now with this, people are just going to be more and more annoyed. Hopefully they can get these problems sorted out soon and maybe it could be launched earlier than August. Stay tuned for more information on this as it becomes available.

Ascom Wireless releases new i75 Messenger

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Ascom Wireless Solutions has just increased their WiFi portfolio by unveiling a new handset known as the i75 Messenger. This could not come in a more timely manner as the use of WiFi is growing at an unprecedented rate, in part due to freeing us from the shackles of a wired environment, which is always a plus point in my book (provided the drawbacks aren’t too impractical to deal with, of course). What does the i75 offer on paper? Well, for starters, it “combines advanced messaging and highly versatile telephony as well as push to talk capabilities. Built to support Professional Messaging, this handset is uniquely quipped to communicate with a comprehensive range of external sources, including building management systems, hospital systems and production process systems.”

According to Henrik Sandberg, Product Manager at Ascom, “Ascom has a unique position on the WiFi market with the i75 Protector (launched 2006) and now we are very proud to release yet another handset; the i75 Messenger. With the i75 Messenger in your hand, you’ve got a remote control to a specific machine, a door opener, or if you connect it to a work assignment database, you get on-the-spot instructions for you and your colleagues.”

With the i75 Virtual SIM-card, it allows a user to grab another system associated handset just in case there is an occurrence of failure in the previously used one. Various functions such as volume, menu and local phonebook credentials are stored automatically in the new handset, and all it takes is a simple user action. There is no word on pricing, but the Ascom i75 VoWiFi handset has been tested and proved to be compatible with Cisco Compatible Extension, (CCX) version 2. Are you currently a user of any kind of WiFi handset at home? If yes, do leave a comment on how your experience has been like, and if the answer is in the negative, do leave a reason why too.

Treo 800 spy shot madness starts again with new blurry goodness

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 25th 2008 at 1:41PM
So we’ve had blurry “Treo 800″ pictures that turned out to be the Centro, others that turned out to be just about nothing, and now this one that is making the rounds in super-blur fast-mo. It’s as if someone took a Centro, made the keys bigger, put a Sprint logo on there, and blurred out what appears to be a tester serial number. That’s about all for now, but as usual we’ll take this with a big grain of salt and make some rumor soup.

Set of Recycled LP Record Coasters

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

If you have a thing for vintage technology, these coasters are a great way to show your love for old LP records.  Granted you could just pick up your own favorite records from the local thrift shop, that is if you don’t have your own already.  However, having a cold drink, dripping with condensation will end up damaging the label on the top.  These particular records have been laminated on both sides to prevent that from happening.  Now if you happen to find a way to do the laminating yourself, it’d definitely be more fun to just pick out your own LP records.

It looks like the titles will vary, so if you’re easily flustered by music outside of your tastes these coasters might not be a good idea for you.  Having a coaster featuring a band you truly loathe would take a bit of the fun out of it.  However, if you’re just more interested in the vintage look and being environmentally conscious this is the way to go.  Each set has 6 different coasters and is being sold for $19.65 per set.

Wheelchair boasts a jukebox

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Most wheelchairs get along just fine with four wheels and an occupant, but this one is radically different. Crutchfield has a new grand prize winner for its “You Dream It, We’ll Help You Built It” contest, and the award goes to Eric Jarnagin and his souped up wheelchair - definitely one of its kind in the whole wide world. You get a subtle green glow around the wheels which translate into a mobile lightshow that grooves to the beat emanating from a formidable speaker set up which consists of an amplifier, speakers and subwoofers. The main music storage device of choice? A 160GB ipod. Now is this ever a wonderful street attraction or what.

According to Crutchfield, Eric’s winning entry had all the elements of creativity, innovation, and caring, showing how consumer electrics can be used for the betterment of mankind, serving us in ways we never thought possible. Eric could not have come up with this musical wheelchair all on his own though, as he had the help of his brother-in-law Robert Vega. Now this is one rockin’ wheelchair that turns into an actual “on-the-go” showpiece audio system.

The basic components needed for the wheelchair system were an Alpine iDa-X100 digital media receiver, an Apple 160GB iPod® classic for the music source, 4″ JL Audio coaxial speakers, and a Kenwood KSC-SW10 compact powered subwoofer housing two 5″x7″ subwoofers and a 30-watt RMS amplifier. In addition, Eric’s chair has Streetglow LED lights connected to a music interface that triggers a virtual mobile lightshow. With the help of Crutchfield’s product advisors, Robert successfully overcame several practical obstacles, devising creative ways to ensure the various electrical components didn’t adversely impact the electrical operations of the wheelchair and the delicate components were adequately protected to handle everyday wear-and-tear. The result was a wheelchair like no other, loaded with some of the best electronics on the market.

DIY Turn Signal Biking Jacket

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Taking a bicycle can be the healthy and green thing to do, but it can get pretty dangerous for the cyclist especially in the dark. The DIY Turn Signal Biking Jacket works by blinking the arrow in which the direction you want to turn. Of course, it works best against a dark background which could potentially lower your overall visibility when not using the turn signals. Ah well, I’ve always wondered by bicycle manufacturers did not bother to come up with turn signals for their rides. How much more expensive could it be, really?
