The Tristar Massage Chair would be great for Sundays

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

The weekend is almost over, I know, I’m sorry to remind you.  However, you’ll need to do whatever possible to relax today to make it through the week to come.  You know the silly little chair pad that you can slap on your desk chair or put on your car seat for long drives?  It’s nifty because you get a nice cheap massage and none of the troubles of having to go to a masseuse.  First of all with a masseuse you have to pay for them, which is just ludicrous.  Then you have the awkward factor of what type of person do you want to be alone in a room with, while they rub on you.  Granted it feels great, but some people do have an issue with that.

Well this chair comes masseuse free, and definitely beats out that cheap little chair pad.  The chair, from Bronze 69, has six different techniques to massage your feet.  Just park it in any room, probably away from the kids so you can actually relax a bit.  The giant chair also features Kalfasun high pressure lamps that relax the muscles in your face and hands.  It includes a CD player and audio system to let you relax to the tunes that help you chill out.  The down side is that the price of the chair is far from relaxing, it is being sold for about $7,807.

Researcher crafts tattoo / scar matching system to nab outlaws

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 22nd 2008 at 7:39AM
Passports and licenses are so last century — these days, sophisticated crooks can change their identity on a whim, and one particular Michigan State University researcher is looking to stay one step ahead. Anil Jain has created an automatic image retrieval system dubbed Tattoo-ID, which “includes an annotated database containing images of scars, marks and tattoos” that is “linked to the criminal history records of all the suspects and convicts who have a tattoo.” Essentially, the application will give law enforcement the ability to query on permanent skin markings, which sure beats manually flipping through ginormous books of images just hoping for a match. Reportedly, Jain and his team are continuing to improve the system, but there’s been no word on how long it’ll take before implementation can begin. Better stay on the straight and narrow, Zune Guy Microsoft Zune.

Enclosed electric motorcycle is green and ghastly

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 22nd 2008 at 4:27AM
Yeah, green in more ways than one. That abomination you see pictured above is unsurprisingly kind to Mother Earth, but we’d venture to say that most Americans wouldn’t be caught dead driving it… until gasoline hits $10 or so per gallon, that is. Designed by pioneering students at Saint Thomas Academy with the help of a $10,000 InvenTeams grant from the Lemelson-MIT program (among other donations), this enclosed motorcycle hums along courtesy of a battery-driven Briggs and Stratton ETEK electric motor. Currently, the bike can scoot about for 40 miles and reach 60 miles-per-hour, and there’s even a GPS unit thrown in to keep you headed in the right direction. Heaven only knows if this thing will see production, but given the way things are trending, we’d place our bets on yes.

Free Online Digital Photography Course And Photo Critique

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Filed in archive Digital Photo Sites by jim on June 22, 2008

<!– –>

For any digital photographer who would like to take an online digital photography course without any pressure here's one that's just starting.

This course is being offered, for free, by a friendly digital camera fan that enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience but still considers herself a beginner.

This strikes me as a good place for noobies, and not so noobies, to exchange ideas and get a feeling for what others at their own level are accomplishing.

Check out the digital photography course here, and, if you want, you can visit the blog where I found the announcement for this digital photography course.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.

Crabfu strikes again with Tortoise RC bot

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

While they may be lacking in technical prowess, Crabfu bots never are lacking in charm, and this here remote controlled Tortoise bot charmed our very pants off. Video is after to the break, but be sure to be on your guard for Tortoise bot’s war of attrition with an indifferent kitty — you may just end up trouserless, and we can’t be held responsible. Hrm, that didn’t come out right.

OLPC XO Laptop now in limited edition red

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

While the original XO Laptop in green is nice enough looking, there is always something that makes it sound special when its labeled as a limited edition. In this case the latest limited edition is a red model of the XO Laptop. There are reported to only be 100 of these special models made and they are all slated for the developers that are working on the dual boot Windows XP and Sugar Linux systems.

Aside from the red coloring, the models also offer 2GB of flash memory, which is the minimum required for Windows XP to run. No plans have been announced for a future release of this coloring, so chances are you will never see one in the wild, that is unless a developer goes against the path and decides to drop theirs on eBay, but I would not count on that happening.
