Has the FCC leaked the T-Mobile Shadow II?

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

While the FCC images usually keep most of the details tight and secure, this latest bit of information seems to be holding a little more than usual. We have here what we can only guess is the successor to the Shadow, which is officially known as the HTC CONV100 and will hit the market as the Shadow II.

While the details are light, it looks like the Shadow II will offer up a nice set of improvements and include an 1100mAh battery, as well as Windows Mobile 6.1 out of the box. In addition, it is also expected to include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and come in either silver or black. As you would expect with the FCC information, pricing and availability timeframe still remains as much as mystery as it was before.

RIM, Flickr offer up Photo Uploader for BlackBerry users

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

It looks like BlackBerry users will now have one more reason to use and enjoy Flickr. RIM and Flickr have partnered up to offer a new upload tool in the form of a native upload app.

Overall, it seems a simple but effective program. Users can grab it from the blackberry mobile startpage, assuming they are running OS 4.2, have at least 65k of free memory and a camera. The upload app allows users to upload images, add any tags before sending them off and even adjust the size of the image. Users who have a built-in GPS can also take advantage of that functionality and geotag their images.

LED flashlight talks you through basic CPR

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 8th 2008 at 7:11AM
Here’s a survival product combo we never thought of: an LED flashlight that talks you through the basic steps of CPR. It sort of makes sense, at least: high-efficiency LED in an ultra-compact AAA battery-based design that will talk you through an important emergency skill while the world crumbles around you. The whole flashlight measures 4-inches in length and sports push-button on/off and CPR read-off. Images of armageddon and self-taught nurses abound.

Bob Lutz test drives a Volt mule, deems the experience “electrifying”

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 8th 2008 at 3:14AM
We already knew that Chevrolet was testing out a fair bit of Volt hardware in modified Malibus, but the time finally arrived for bigwig Bob Lutz to take a test drive in one such vehicle. As General Motors forges ahead with plans to produce the vehicle and have it on the roads by 2010, Lutz was able to get behind the wheel of an “engineering development vehicle” with the 16-kwh Li-ion battery pack system; after cruising about with nary a drop of gasoline to thank, he semi-intentionally coined the experience “electrifying.” It seems the version he drove wasn’t exactly refined, thus he refrained from commenting (read: blasting) too much about the ins and outs of how it performed. Still, even ‘ole Bob missed the “throaty roar of a [traditional] engine.” We’ll raise our glasses to that.

Anaheim-Vegas maglev train project gets $45 million infusion

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 8th 2008 at 1:37AM
It’s been a while since we heard anything about the proposed Anaheim-Las Vegas maglev train. As of Friday, the project is moving forward as part of a transportation bill signed by President Bush that puts aside $45 million for the 300 mile-per-hour train. While the project initially called for a $3- to $5 billion budget, this little chunk of money will get things rolling (or, as the case may be, floating). The train is projected to whisk people from Disneyland to Vegas in under two hours. No word on proposed launches or actual construction, but we assume Disney will get involved with some extra cash at this point.

Asus to release the Eee TV, Eee Monitor in September

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Asus continues to expand it’s Eee product line with new products beyond the niche ultraportable/netbook market. We’ve heard about the Eee Speaker, the Wii remote-like Eee stick, and now here comes two more products, the Eee TV and the Eee Monitor. Asus has confirmed that both products will come sometime in September. The Eee TV was already displayed at the Asus booth during the recently concluded Computex, while a product spec of the Eee monitor was also seen hanging around in the Asus booth.

While the Eee TV doesn’t seem to be a promising new product, the Eee monitor certainly has a potential to be an alternative to the more expensive Apple iMac.  Like the iMac, this Asus monitor also has a built-in computer in its 19 to 21-inch screen along with a built-in TV tuner. It is predicted to come with a price of around $500 which is more than half the price of the iMac’s pricing.

The Asus Eee Monitor is certainly one product that we should all watch out for. We expect to hear more about this from Asus as its September release date approaches.

HTC Touch Diamond hands-on, up close and personal this time

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

by Chris Ziegler, posted Jun 8th 2008 at 12:34AM
The good folks at HTC left this little gem (pun totally intended) on our doorstep today, but as cool as it sounds to have one of the world’s great Windows Mobile torchbearers just drop off its hottest new handset to us like it’s an extra large pepperoni and mushroom, it’s a bittersweet gift at best. Why? The Touch Diamond lacks both HSDPA 850 / 1900 and GSM 850 in its current incarnation, leaving it to cling to what 1900MHz EDGE towers it can find. That makes it an untouchable product for all but the hardest-core North Americans who are willing to throw both high-speed data and maximum signal coverage out of the window just to be able to put the pinnacle of WinMo 6.1 engineering in their pocket. Are you in that one percent? Or perhaps even better, are you in Europe where the usable 3G flows like running water? Click through to Engadget Mobile’s hands-on to get the lowdown!

The HTC Touch Diamond is hitting shores world-round, and this store in Malaysia is making a big deal of things with a full selection of accessories, alluring attendants, and what appears to be a permanent address. If the touchscreen and Opera browser don’t get you, the shiny displays certainly will. Follow the read link for more pictures of the new store.
