We can’t say for certain that this is the most pointlessly sophisticated contraption we’ve ever seen built, but regardless of all that, we dare anyone to deny its greatness. In essence, the LeaveMeAloneBox does nothing more than turn itself off after a pestiferous human flips it on — time, and time, and time again. Really, the beauty of this thing can only truly be seen in video, so click on through for what’s likely to be the best 29 seconds of your day.

Don’t act like you didn’t have April 24th circled in your day planner — heck, you probably stayed up all night hoping Hardy Heron 8.04 would be launched as the 24th dawned in Australia. Regardless of your level of fanaticism towards the OS, the latest flavor of Ubuntu is finally ready for mass consumption. You know what’s waiting for your torrent manager right down there, so why on Earth are you still reading rather than downloading? Get!

See the camera? Good, neither will the person you’re spying on. That’s Digital Cowboy’s latest take on the digital spy pen. The ¥17,800 (about $175) DVR-BP features a 1-mm pinhole CMOS camera, mic, 2-hour battery, and 2GB of memory to store all your video deceit at 352 x 288 pixels and 15fps. Coming April 24th to a GAP changing room near you. Sample video of a uh, pussy cat after the break.

It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears (okay maybe not blood) but we finally have a new look and layout for Coolest Gadgets. This has been in procrastinated development for the best part of a year so I’m delighted it’s finally live.

If you are reading this via our feed please come on over and check it out, all opinions are very welcome.

The main changes we’ve made are:

• We’ve removed some of the adverts that we thought were too in your face
• At the bottom of all posts there is now an option to “Mail to a friend”
• The layout of individual posts has been radically neatened
• Navigation moved from the left to the right
