Dueling Space Marines Copter Set

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Marines are known to be tough SOBs, so what do you think Space Marines are made out of? ThinkGeek as Dueling Space Marines Copter Set up for grabs, and at certain angles it looks as though they’re shooting laser pee at each other.

This Dueling Space Marines Copter Set gets you a set of two mini r/c helicopters with infra-red laser tag style battle action. Take to the air from the palm of your hand then use the shoulder button on the remote unleash a plasma blast your opponent copter. Each shot causes the gun of your space marine to flash with simulated gunfire. The first hit causes your enemy to spin. The second makes the enemy copter lose power… the third cuts rotor power completely as your opponent plummets to the ground and you gloat in victory. However to truly dominate the sky, you’ll need to practice up on your flying skills. With stable flying characteristics and forgiving crash dynamics these diminutive space copters are perfect for hat impending battle against the betentacled alien planet hopper that awaits when you level up.

Plenty of practice is needed if you’re to remain at the top of your game. A couple of such copters will set you back by $49.99. Would be interesting to have a third party with a slingshot attempting to shoot down either Space Marine during the duel for that wild card factor…

Optibike OB1 electric bicycle

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Bicycles are supposed to be great vehicles when it comes to keeping the earth green and giving you a good workout, right? Well, apparently newer bicycles these days tend to let up on the sweating part by allowing a little electric-powered engine to help you out during the steeper moments in life. Optibike is one of those companies, and their 2008 range of electric-powered bicycles will have the limited edition OB1 as the flagship of the series. Its main component is the patented Motorized Bottom Bracket (MBB) that drives through the derauiller gear system to optimize acceleration and range at all pedaling speeds. This special system is now oil cooled and is capable of delivering 850 continuous watts of power. Other goodies include carbon fiber handlebars, brakes, derailleur, chainring and cable ferrules, a customized paint job, GPS satellite navigation, plus a wireless PDA interface that provides real-time feedback on remaining range, battery charge and motor temperatures - are you drooling already?

Talk about one high performance bike! I wouldn’t want to let this out of my sight even for a moment, and would do well to get the most secure parking options available in the market. After all, there will only be two dozen of the exclusive OB1s available throughout the world, and they don’t come cheap at $12,995 each - which is more than enough to buy a small, compact sedan. A trio of other models will round off the 2008 range, consisting of the 800Li, the 50 mile range 600Li and Optibike 400. All of these will feature “build-your-own” bike customization options, with prices starting for $4,995 upwards for the 400 watt model.

Well, it sounds like a great intra-city vehicle to move around in. Just make sure you wear a helmet whenever you head outdoors as you never can tell when one of those deranged motorists hit the road.

Dell intro’s super-small, eco-friendly bamboo Green desktop PC

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

At the Fortune Green conference, Dell CEO, Michael Dell was kind enough to show off their latest attempt at an environmentally friendly PC. Though still in the development process at the moment, Dell has begun boasting of the PC’s potential features. Purportedly, the device uses 70% less energy than most other desktop models and it is also 81% smaller than most desktop PC’s. BenQ offers up the classic-looking DSC C750, DSC C850

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

BenQ has upgraded its C series digital camera lineup with two new models, the 7-megapixel DSC C750 and the 8-megapixel DSC C850. With their classic design accentuated by an elegant looking front to back leather handle, these cameras will most likely appeal to users who prefer the classic look of old manual cameras.

The DSC750 and DSC850 boast of a super-shake-free mode with high ISO that can be used when the cameras are on static and movie modes. This allows for the production of clean and crisp photo and video output. BenQ has also provided users with the option to zoom in and out of scenes when recording videos in MPEG4 format at either 640 x 480 or 720 x 400 resolutions.

In addition to these features, BenQ also equipped the C750 and C850 with 14 shooting modes that users can choose to employ depending on the scenes they want to capture. Other features of the DSC750 and C850 include; 3x optical zoom, smile catch mode and optical zoom during video recording. The C750 features a 2.5-inch LCD display, while the C850 has a 2.7-inch LCD display.

Other than these features, the DSC C750 and C850 have nothing more to offer except for the usual stuff that you get from other digital cameras within their range. Both cameras will be released in Asia Pacific and Europe this month.

Toshiba updates their Satellite Pro notebook line-up

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Its always important for a company to keep the product line-up fresh and lately Toshiba is trying to do this with their Satellite Pro series, by adding nice, new features and giving their laptops an overall boost.

Basically, the L300 and L300D will remain the starting laptop and every laptop on from there will be a little more advanced. You can choose to have an Intel Core 2 Duo in the L300 or the AMD Turion 64 X2 in the L300D. Screenwise, they both offer a 15.4-inch display. Now, a $699 L300D sports a 1.9GHz AMD processor, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive. A $799 L300 boasts a 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a 160GB hard drive. Both of these laptops look really good, but to me, the L300 might be a little bit better of a deal.

In addition, Toshiba added some smaller laptops starting off with a 13.3-inch screen, the U400, and the M300 with a 14-inch screen. They both come with a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a nice 1.3-megapixel webcam. The M300, with the 14-inch screen, starts off at $999 and features 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive. On the other hand, the smaller, U400 comes with the same features, but will retail for $1,049, instead.

The new L350 is actually a bit larger and fills the desktop replacement line-up. It sports a nice 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo processor, pretty much like the rest of the laptops previously mentioned, and it boasts 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. This one sells for $1,099, and is the most expensive laptop out of the Satellite Pro series.

Finally, they should all be shipping at the same time, however, no word on when that date is.

Wireless Digital Rain Gauge

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Rain gauges tend not to be the most technical of devices. However, this latest one ads a bit more geeky-ness to your garden. The Digital Rain Gauge has been created and it’s wireless too (but not in a wi-fi type of way). What it allows you to do is track the rain which is then displayed on a small LCD screen which can be read up to 10 feet away. The only reason it gets the “wireless” added to it’s name is due to it being powered by an AA battery. Surely it should have been named a “Battery Powered Digital Rain Gauge”. Not to worry!

The digital rain gauge is designed for farmers who need to know how much rain there has been so they can best look after their crops. Accuracy of the gauge can see it measure to within 1000th of an inch which is not too shabby at all. The rain gauge also does not collect and store the water. The rain water just merely passes through the device and the amount of water is measured by counting as the rain falls through it. Resetting the device can be done at the touch of a button.

The digital rain gauge costs $60.

Samsung delays fourth gen BD-P1500 Blu-ray player, adds BD-Live

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

by Richard Lawler, posted Apr 23rd 2008 at 2:13PM
We can’t really see the logic in releasing a Blu-ray player without BD-Live in 2008 — and neither can Samsung, which just announced its fourth generation BD-P1500 will be BD-Live Ready. The bad news is the May release date announced earlier has slipped to June, and the formerly comfortable $399 MSRP is now a less promising TBA. We’re not sure if that “ready” tag means it will be BD-Live enabled out of the gate, however DTS-HD “High resolution” is confirmed on the way in a future firmware update. A slight delay for a significant upgrade in features? We’ll allow it.

Update: Samsung let us know the press release was in error, the MSRP will remain at $399.

Would you text your vote for President?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

According to a survey by Samsung Telecommunications America, quoted on textually.org, more than half of Democrats, Republicans and Independents would be happy to text their vote for the next President.

I like the idea of voting being made simpler - I’m sure we’ve all heard that famous fact that American Idol pulls in more voters than national elections, perhaps because you can vote without leaving your house, or perhaps because presidential hopefuls are rarely as entertaining as even the worst Idol rejects.

Samsung S2 and S3 hands-on

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

by Paul Miller, posted Apr 23rd 2008 at 1:01PM We just got to spend a smidgen of quality time with Samsung’s new boringdaps: the S2 and S3. Gone are the pretensions of Bluetooth grandeur of the P2, these two players are about as straightforward as it gets. Samsung’s targeting the fashionistas in the crowd, and while the S3 might be a bit larger than they were hoping for in a 4GB player, the S2 “pebble” has kind of a fun feel to it — though some sort of clip-on apparatus would be appreciated.
