You won’t be winning any fashion shows with these Page Up and Page Down cuff links, but the sorts of people that would actually consider buying them probably don’t care.  They are made out of real computer keys and they are cheap, at only $8.95, you can almost certainly afford to purchase his US keyboard cuff links as well.  They look the same, just with a U and an S instead of the Page Up and Page Down.  The only way that these could be geekier is if they were made from recycled C64 keys, but breaking up a C64 board to make cuff links would be verging on sacrilege.

Coby announces new touch screen PMP

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Usually, people assume that all touch screen PMP’s are knock offs the ipod Touch, they are usually right, however, this new Coby PMP is not really like the iPod Touch at all. In fact, it is more like Samsung’s P2.

To begin with the Coby MP-835, it measures out at 52 x 97 x 10mm, which is pretty thin and compact. It features a main button located on the top left corner, other than typical device buttons being in the center of the bottom. It sports a nice 3-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 272. Additionally, it comes with USB connectivity and SD memory expansion. It supports a variety of formats including MP3, WMA, OGG, WMV, JPG, BMP, GIF and TXT. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have support for a whole lot of video formats. So far, it is available in 2GB and 4GB models, however, no word on pricing or availability just yet.

CompactFlash-based SSDs get tested

Friday, February 15th, 2008

You know how much we love SSDs around here, but getting one the legit way currently involves poking a rather large hole in your wallet — so we were pretty interested to see how a jury-rigged SSD built using that CompactFlash-to-SATA adapter we spotted a while back would hold up. While we probably would have sprung for something a little larger than the 4GB drives used in the test, the results are pretty encouraging: DIY SSD drives were overall faster than the 1.8-inch traditional drive found in the macbook air, and even a little faster than the VAIO TZ’s 64GB SSD. The drives were bested by a 7200rpm 2.5-inch drive and a 128GB SATA SSD, as you’d expect, but what we weren’t expecting was the negligible hit on power consumption — it looks like SSDs really don’t use less power, as the unchanged battery life of the SSD MacBook Air hinted. Still — you know we want one. Check out all the results and a little howto action after the break.

Hydromatic debuts “revolutionary” Dryer Miser clothes dryer technology

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Posted Feb 15th 2008 2:52AM by Donald Melanson
Filed under: Household It’s far from an out-of-the-box solution that some green(er) dryers are, but the folks at Hydromatic Technologies think their new “Dryer Miser” technology is the cure for all your clothes drying woes, and the most energy efficient solution short of hanging ‘em out to dry. The key to that, it seems, is the system’s reliance on hydronic technology, which consists of a specially-engineered fluid that gets heated up in a self-contained system to dry the clothes. That apparently not only cuts the energy consumption of the dryer by up to 50 percent, but actually cuts the drying time by up to 41 percent as well. As you can see above, however, it’s not exactly the most elegant solution, and according to the company, it’ll initially only be available as an after-market kit that’ll need to be installed by a qualified technician. No word on what it’ll cost though, but the company is shooting for it to be available in the fall of this year.

Thirsty Light: Know When Your Plants Need Watering

Friday, February 15th, 2008

People who love gardening would love this newly released gadget. It’s called the Thirsty Light, a device that tells you exactly when your plants need watering. This gadget can work two ways – you can leave it in your plant so you can just check on it anytime. When the light turns on, then your plant needs some nourishment. This is called the leave-in method. You can also use the gadget to monitor all your plants. All you have to do is to take it from one plant to another and see if it will light up or not.

The Thirty Light gadget is built with a probe that you can stick into the plant’s soil. It is equipped with sensors that can monitor the soil’s moisture level. The gadget has five levels of sensitivity. The drier your plants are, the more rapid the blinking would be.

Two standard 1.5 volts AG 13 lithium batteries power the Thirsty Light. These batteries are easily replaceable and available. When the gadget slow blinks thrice every three seconds, that is an indication that device is running low on batteries. And just like the batteries, the LED lights could easily be replaced as well.

Thirsty Light is a gadget built for every indoor plant hobbyist and urban gardeners. You don’t have to guess when your plants need some water. The device will tell you that exactly. And you won’t be flooding your plants with water either.

However, these gadgets are technically unnecessary for those who have legitimate green thumbs. The device is good for novice gardeners and those who take care of plants just for fun. Thirsty light uses the patent Drypoint Technology.

Hyundai Genesis

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Hyundai campaigns to roll out its all-new Hyundai Genesis to succeed in US and Korea. The Genesis is expected to turn up at Hyundai dealerships in the US and Korea in the summer of 2008. It is said that the company is building the Genesis on its rear-wheel drive architecture.

Design

The design goes beyond mere visualization. It is not merely about the appearance but is about feeling as though it’s in the right place. It’s sensation of outline and utility come together flawlessly. What makes the Genesis more dazzling are its spacious orchestra-style rear seats with extra headroom letting passengers feel comfortable on long rides.

Force

Technicality wise power is the vital question that people ask about a car. But with Genesis you don’t have to worry as it offers more horse power per liter than benchmarks like BMW 750i and Lexus GS460. It also bids high torque output for a sturdy push off the line. It furnishes maximum efficiency in automatic mode or for control in manual mode.

Friction and control

The Genesis uses several advanced systems to give you the best grip. It uses routing sensors to evaluate your projected path with where the car is actually headed, directly approving any differences.

Awareness

Protection

Modu CEO says all Nokia can do is pray

Friday, February 15th, 2008

While we certainly thought Modu’s modular handset had promise when we played with it at MWC a couple days ago, the company’s founder seems to think the little handset is about to shake things up in a big way — in an interview with Israel’s TheMarker Dov Moran said that “all Nokia can do is go the church on Sunday and pray.” According to Moran, the Modu is based on the reverse of Nokia’s build-it-all-in philosophy, which has led to stagnation in the Finnish company’s devices — “I’ve been to the Nokia booth, and it’s boring. Same device only with 16GB instead of 8″ — and the Modu’s flexible nature will combat that. We’re not sure — that N96 was pretty hot — but we love a good rabble-rouser, and it looks like the staid mobile industry just found a good one.

Wii 2 and Xbox the Third hitting in 2010?

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Those pesky analysts are at it again, and this time it’s serious: Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities says we can expect a sequel to the Wii in 2010, to be followed by a new Xbox later that year. Obviously it’s something on the minds of all three of the gaming hardware giants — in fact, Gizmondo probably has 2010 in its sights as well — but there’s really no telling at this point how accurate this rumor is. What we have heard are some conjectures before now that Nintendo has a shorter life cycle in mind for its graphics-impaired Wii. Also, Microsoft obviously made a huge bet this generation on hitting a year before the competition, and has done alright for itself in the process, so Microsoft might be looking for a repeat. There’s no rumor yet on Sony’s PS4 plans, but while the company has its hands full at the moment with its purported 2008 comeback, we’re sure they’re keeping this all in mind. Wilson also predicts a new Nintendo DS and PSP in 2010, meaning any way you slice it youre’re going need a second mortgage.
