Auto Detective Pen: Exposing Enemy Spies for 16 Bucks

Friday, January 18th, 2008

You love role-playing as a spy and you often don a crisp suit, thinking you’re 007. But then, you find yourself financially challenged and can’t afford what the slick James Bond can. Well, for US$16, you can get a spy pen for your spy roleplaying needs.

The pen is equipped with LED which pulsates upon detection of a signal spies usually use (900 / 1200 / 1300 and 2400 / 2600 / 3000MHz). Get in closer proximity with the offending, presumably hidden, device and the LED pulsates more rapidly. The Auto Detective pen is also loaded with ultraviolet light which could be used detect fake money and whatnot. And yes, it IS a metal detector of sorts so you can use it when frisking a suspicious-looking individual. All those features for US$16? Yep, you guessed right. It’s made in China.

Philips 47PFL9632D Review

Friday, January 18th, 2008

From Philip’s new generation of LCD HDTVs comes the Philips 47PFL9632D 47-inch 1080p monster. Philips has crammed the 47PFL9632D full with a whole bunch of image enhancing features, such a dynamic backlight to enhance the black levels and colours, Perfect Pixel Engine, and 100Hz processing technology.

From just looking at the Philips 47PFL9632D it gives the impression that it is a highend, top of the range HDTV, and that is exactly what it is. It looks great when it is off, and looks amazing when it is on. The full 1080p LCD HDTV screen offers the highest pixel resolution for the best quality HD image possible, and all this is made better by the extra Philip’s technology they have included in the 47PFL9632D.

Philip’s Perfect Pixel Engine works wonders on making the very best image possible from the input source it is given, it can upscale standard definition sources to full 1080p, reduce noise and enhance the colours and contrast of the output image shown. This technology also works on high definition sources by removing noise, compression artifacts and tweaking the contrast to get a simply amazing image on the screen. Black levels are also very impressive with the 8,000:1 contrast ratio, providing vivid colours and deep blacks.

Also included on the Philips 47PFL9632D is 100Hz processing, which turns a 25fps source into 100 frames per second, to output very sharp and smooth running images, which keep the high resolution during fast moving scenes with no judder. 24p is also fully supported which enables the 47PFL9632D to play back at 24fps exactly, which is the frame rate which all films are original recorded at, providing the very best in film watching. Inputs include 3x HDMI 1.3, 2x scart, component, composite, s-video, CAM slot, USB and more.

Overall reviewing the Philips 47PFL9632D has been a very pleasant experience, providing us the top notch results in a great looking set.

Tenga New Adult Concept

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Trust the Japanese to come up with the Tenga New Adult Concept. These Tenga Onacups will come with price tags starting from ¥1,500 upwards - that’s roughly $15 a pop, and each of them are good for a few dozen shots or so. Depending on the various adventurous positions that you want to get yourself into, they certainly aren’t reliable substitutes for the real thing but it sure as heck is 100% risk-free when it comes to STDs. I’d make sure they don’t end up in the dishwasher though.

MacBook Air processor situation gets explained

Friday, January 18th, 2008

We already knew the basic details about the processor at the heart of Apple’s MacBook Air, but those itching to know exactly how Apple and Intel managed to cram everything into that oh so small package may want to head over to AnandTech, which has pieced together a fairly thorough report on the matter. As the site reports, the processor is based on Intel’s 65nm Merom architecture and packs an 800MHz bus, yet it uses the significantly smaller chip package that Intel had originally only planned to debut with the launch of its Montevina laptop platform later this year. That combination, along with the Intel 965GMS chipset with integrated graphics, allowed for a 60% reduction in total footprint size, and a TDP rating of just 20W, as opposed to 35W from the regular Core 2 Duo processor. If that’s still not enough MacBook Air minutia you, you can hit up the link below for the full rundown.

AT&T woos customers for Valentine’s Day

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I know it is a little bit early to start shopping for Valentine’s Day, but hey - you can never be too sure, especially in this day and age when you might just get swamped with too much work at the last minute to have enough time to pick up a present for your other half. AT&T wants to make sure you have no problems with your partner come February 14th, offering a trio of handsets that will be extremely hard for your wallet to resist. The three red colored cell phones on offer are the LG Shine, the Samsung BlackJack II and the BlackBerry Curve 8310. These three can’t be found on any other carrier since they remain exclusive to AT&T, and this time you get to kickstart Valentine’s with plenty of romantic red.

According to Andy Wilson, vice president of National Marketing for AT&T’s wireless unit, “Chocolates and flowers are standby gifts for Valentine’s Day, but this year we’re spicing things up by offering terrific deals for those who want to go with something different. These eye-catching red devices are available at a great promotional price, and with unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling and unlimited text messaging plans, it’s easy and affordable for consumers to stay connected with loved ones.”

These handsets aren’t too shabby either, and I would like to have the BlackJack II the most out of the lot. Here’s a little bit of information to jog your memory - the red LG Shine is a slider handset that comes with a 2.2″ mirror LCD display, pre-loaded with AT&T’s Video Share, Mobile Banking and AT&T Mobile Music services, a 2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. As for the BlackJack II, it offers multiple e-mail account support, over-the-air synchronization of contacts, calendars and task lists, a 2 megapixel camera and GPS capabilities. Last but not least, we have the BlackBerry Curve that brings together e-mail and messaging capabilities in a premium handset that does not fall short where multimedia features are concerned. Honey, if you get me a red iPhone, I’m sold. Too bad the offer doesn’t extend to Apple’s wunderphone.

Recycled journals: Make your writing natural

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Going green cannot get better than this - with so many gorgeous, eco-friendly products now being available, you would have few reasons not to have atleast one eco product at home. These absolutely stunning “eco-chic” journals from Ecojot are made from completely recycled paper and have several cover designs that you can choose from. The paper is acid-free and the dyes used are vegetable based. Plus, the journals have even been produced in environmentally conscious paper mills. I only wish they (and eco-friendly products in general) were priced lower - you will have to shell out $15 for a single journal. Nevertheless, a trendy addition to your stationery that you won’t regret. Available at See Jane Work.

Yoggie Firestick Pico USB stick: Firewall protection on-the-go

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Yoggie has introduced the Firestick Pico, a small USB thumb drive device that acts as a personal firewall. The Firestick Pico is a small USB drive that is actually a 300MHz Linux computer that runs with an Xscale PXA270 CPU. Once inserted into your USB port it will offload the security onto the computer, the Pico comes with a license for the Kaspersky security suite.

A good idea for those in need of that extra protection while on-the-go, a firewall on a USB stick will not only give that needed protection but also save some CPU power as compared to running a software solution.

The Firestick Pico is currently available and retails for $119.

DirecTV rolls out remote recording

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Posted Jan 18th 2008 11:05AM by Erik HansonWe can’t count the number of times we’ve gotten to work and remembered we forgot to schedule that night’s American Idol football game to record on DirecTV, and wished we could do it using just our cell phone. Well, the satellite provider is adding the capability to do just that: with the DVR Scheduler (previously known as Remote Booking), you can log onto the mobile site at m.directv.com, and bounce a record signal from DirecTV’s satellite down to your DVR in minutes. The soft launch has HR20-700 DVR models going live right about now, with more models and an official rollout scheduled for February. Even the venerable TiVo HR10-250 is scheduled to get this feature, and it’s sure to be a big hit with commuters, travelers — and the rest of us who don’t properly set up our season pass recordings.
